Questions

Questions patients ask

What conditions does Dr. Cole treat?
Dr. Cole treats conditions of the hand, wrist, and elbow. His practice covers thumb CMC joint arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, epicondylitis (commonly called tennis elbow or golfer's elbow), and fractures of the hand and wrist. He completed fellowship training in Surgery of the Hand and Upper Extremity at Washington University, Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and his practice is built around this focus.
Does Dr. Cole perform surgery, or only evaluations?
Both. Dr. Cole evaluates hand, wrist, and elbow problems and, when surgery is the right next step, performs the surgery himself. This includes endoscopic carpal tunnel release, the TENEX procedure for epicondylitis, treatment for thumb CMC joint arthritis, and fracture care for hand and wrist injuries.
What if I have an urgent hand or wrist injury?
Call the office right away. Dr. Cole's practice provides urgent evaluation for acute upper extremity injuries, including fractures, so there is no need to wait for a routine appointment slot if your injury is new or severe.
Do I need a referral to see Dr. Cole?
Not necessarily. Many patients are referred to Dr. Cole by another physician, but the office can also schedule a visit directly. If you have a referral, bring it with you. If you do not, call the office and they will confirm what your insurance plan requires.
Is Dr. Cole accepting new patients?
Yes. Dr. Cole is accepting new patients at his Memphis practice.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, and any imaging or records related to your hand, wrist, or elbow. The Your First Visit page on this site covers what to expect once you arrive.
Will my insurance cover my visit?
That depends on your plan. Call ahead with your insurance information, and the office will verify your coverage and any referral requirements before your appointment. This page is educational and is not a substitute for medical advice from your own physician. Call the office with questions specific to your condition or your visit.
